Style Post: Mismatchy.

"Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.”
Does this match? No. Do I care? No. :)

I think it's the artist in me that makes me want to throw all of the conventional style rules out of the window and express myself however I feel. I'm a firm believer in you wearing the clothes, not letting them wear you. And even if your outfit doesn't work for someone else, wear what works for you.

Peace.

Fall is in full swing right now, and I love it. With the leaves changing colors and that crisp air, it's perfect sweatshirt weather. If you love sweatshirts like me, why not take your sweatshirt game up a notch and opt for a cropped version? You can find them in some trendier stores now, or you can take an old sweatshirt and cut it yourself. I found this one at a second hand store. They always seem to have some retro/goofy sweatshirts that I find myself attracted to.

You may be wondering why I'm holding a painting, and if so, it's because I'm shipping this bad boy off to my very first buyer today. Yes, I am officially a paid artist. Still broke, lol, but paid nonetheless. If you want to see more of my art, check out my Etsy shop, ArtistLeslieAnne.

“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” – Booker T. Washington

I've cut this shirt up in so many different ways, it's not even funny. Today, it's a crop top/ bandana. Tomorrow it may not exist at all. That's just the fun of fashion.

Keep it peaceful :)

Happy Independence Day! There's nothing I love more than a holiday that gets you off work...praise the Lordt. This isn't exactly a red, white, and blue outfit, but it has hints of reds, blue, and nude, which on a scale of 1 - Patriotic, is about a 5. And I'm ok with that because America's been tap dancing on my nerves lately anyway, lol. :)

I wore these thrifted Hawaiian print shorts with a denim crop top and finished the look with a bold nude necklace and jelly sandals. I love getting old shorts because they're usually high waisted with a modest length, and if you want them shorter, a pair of scissors is all you need.

So what are you guys up to this weekend? I may go party in DC, but I'll probably stay at home with my fiance and Penelope (pup) and grill, pop fireworks, and drink some tasty ass rum. :)

Celebrate. And keep it peaceful, friends!

How to Style: Short Bodycon Dress

Dress: Foerver 21 / Wrap: Unknown / Shoes: Nine West
The kind of beauty I want most is the hard-to-get kind that comes from within - strength, courage, dignity. -Ruby Dee

 Happy Monday!

This outfit is definitely channeling Mother Africa. It's a fun, summertime outfit for the beach, a funky festival, or any type of eclectic crowd. To me, short bodycon dresses can sometimes come off like you're two seconds from going to the club, especially if you're wearing heels. So I decided to throw this wrap I bought while on vacation in Antigua around my waist, paying special attention to position the opening right at the top of my thigh to show a little leg....cuz I'm fancy like that.

“If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing. If she's worth it, you wont give up. If you give up, you're not worthy. ... Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.” ― Bob Marley
Hey beautiful people. I threw this outfit together last weekend to run some errands, and I was digging the overall look. I'm usually a pants or shorts type of girl, but I've been making a real effort this year to wear more dresses and skirts. I enjoy the femininity of it. Turbans and different head wraps are also a must for me this summer. It's an immediate outfit changer, adding lots of color and interest. Not to mention, it's perfect for those days your hair is wildin' out. And be prepared to see a lot more of these shoes. I think flatforms are plain adorable.

Anyway, more pics after the link.
Keep it peaceful :)

"Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us." - Wilma Rudolph
I can't wait for the day where people dare to be who they are, unapologetically. Where we all live lives we can be proud of, regardless of whether they reach a level of fame or not. Forget fame. Strive to make a difference in this world...in your community and within your family. Strive for greatness within yourself.

"I was a young woman with an evolved mind who was not afraid of her beauty or her sexuality. For some people that’s uncomfortable. They didn’t understand how female and strong work together. Or young and wise. Or Black and divine." -Lauryn Hill
It's that time of the week again....Monday! For most of us that means it's time to get back to work, but for bloggers, work never stops. I took advantage of the beautiful weather this past weekend, and styled these thrifted overalls. I really like the way the outfit came together, though a solid color crop top in the same style would look great as well.

Overalls have grown in popularity this year, with the denim trend booming, but I generally see them styled in only one way. And that's form fitting pants-overalls with a nice top and heels. I prefer the baggier style more reminiscent of the 90's, so when I found these at the thrift store, excitement level was on 10. Check out more pics after the link and let me know what you think!

Are you loving the recent denim trend? How do you style your overalls?

Check out my Feature as WIWT's Editor's Choice.

Hey guys! I recently joined WIWT, which many of you know stands for "What I Wore Today." It's a site where you upload one outfit a day and they have dedicated users from all over the world.  To my surprise, my first outfit was chosen to be featured on their home page, which is a definitely an honor. Grateful to the editors over at WIWT for featuring me as their "Editor's Choice" wearing my Cupcake Mafia T's outfit. If you have a chance, check it out

Peace,

"We cannot think of being acceptable to others until we have first proven acceptable to ourselves" -Malcolm X
Preach, Brother Malcolm. I wrote this whole little spiel about black people and how we need to start unifying and holding each other accountable for the desperate state of things in our communities, and then I remembered...this is a fashion blog. (I'll leave that to my Twitter account.)

So let's talk fashion. This is one of those outfits I'd piece together when going to a music event like a festival or concert, anything late night, or if I'm running around in the city. This was a full length t-shirt until I cut it into a crop top. With the crop top trend still going strong, I suggest you head to the thrift store, find an interesting graphic tee in the women or kids section, and cut it to your liking. It's a cheap and easy way to get a unique crop top. Additionally, yal aren't going to be able to stop me from wearing these jellies this spring and summer. I have a black and nude pair and I'm prepared to wear them with pretty much everything I own...at any given moment. #itsjellyseason

If you have any questions or comments about what I'm wearing or need any styling tips, please drop me a comment below!

How to Style: One Dress, Two Ways.

Last weekend while visiting Roanoke, Va, I found a whole gang of clothes at the thrift store. My fiance legitimately believes I'm turning into an old woman, but i just can't help myself...I love vintage! And at thrift stores, I get in the zone. I fell in love with this bright orange floral print dress and for just $4, I had to buy it. Check out two ways you can style a simple calve-length dress with side slits.

Style Post: Thrifted Riding Pants.

"We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained. –Marie Curie

Last week I took a trip to the Goodwill and found some awesome new pieces to add to my wardrobe. My favorite item would be these high waisted riding pants. They have a great thickness to them and look brand new. Plus I love the unusual green color. American Apparel  has riding pants very similar to these, but they cost $74, and these were only $4. I'd call that a win.

That's why regardless of how much money I have in the bank, I will always shop at thrift stores. Because if you know what you're doing, you can walk out of there with gems at a fraction of what it runs you in stores. Great style doesn't have to be expensive. You just have to recognize when you find something worth buying, and mix and match it with modern pieces in your wardrobe to create one cohesive look.

The blazer I'm wearing is also thrifted (with a little DIY spray-painted message on the back), the crop top is from Rue 21, the shoes are Nine West, and my purse is from H&M. Clink the link below for more pics :)

Style Post: Vintage Fringe Queen.

Top and skirt: thrift store finds/ Shoes: Go Jane
“Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn” ― Gore Vidal
I found this skirt last weekend at a thrift store and wouldn't allow myself to pass it up. It's light weight, has a little texture to it, metal studs, and best of all: fringe!  Vintage fringe finds make me tingly all over. I decided the high waisted nature of the skirt would be cute with this black bandeau top with a mesh panel and a pair of strappy black sandals. All black everything.

Have you found anything awesome lately while thrifting?

“If you celebrate your differentness, the world will, too. It believes exactly what you tell it—through the words you use to describe yourself, the actions you take to care for yourself, and the choices you make to express yourself. Tell the world you are one-of-a-kind creation who came here to experience wonder and spread joy. Expect to be accommodated.” - Victoria Moran

Do you ever find yourself questioning who you are or where you are in life? I know I can get to surfing the net and Googling and...it's just a wrap from there. It's easy to get in a space where you look at other people and think "Why not me?" But you're exactly where you need to be in your personal journey. Whatever your dreams are, don't lose sight of them. Your journey will not be like any others...it's uniquely yours. And once you start to realize that, the better off you'll be.

I got this outfit from Cupcake Mafia last year as a birthday gift. They're a company based out of Atlanta, GA with tons of trendy tops, bottoms, and accessories. And it's so cute, because when you get your package in the mail, it has the sweet scent of cupcakes. I kept with a black and white trend and added a pop of red with my sneakers. Head over to Cupcake Mafia T's to shop the look plus many more baked goods.

Peace.

Style Post: Peter Pilotto x Target Look 4.

Top: Peter Pilotto / Shorts: Thrifted / Socks: Urban Outfitters / Shoes: Go Jane
"I like being a woman, even in a man’s world. After all, men can’t wear dresses, but we can wear the pants." - Whitney Houston
Here's the final look that I styled around my Peter Pilotto two-tone floral t-shirt. I still can't get over how reasonable the prices for this collection were. With the reds, blues, and white, there are a ton of ways you can style this top. I chose to complement the colors by wearing high-waisted blue shorts, over-the-knee socks, and black jellies.

Socks & sandals are something I've never shied away from, so when I got these jellies in the mail the other day, it was basically go time in my mind. I'm so excited 90's fashion is a big enough deal that they're selling jellies again. Because Lordt knows I used to have a clear pair with glitter that I couldn't get enough of.

"Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live." — Gianni Versace
Hey guys! If you read Monday's Style Post, you already know that this week, each of my style posts will feature one Peter Pilotto x Target item.  This outfit's item is this amazing button-up floral print and lace blouse. I love the contrasting colors in the blouse and the sheer sleeves! Rather than pair it with bottoms that matched the top, I thought an olive green skirt would be fun with bold, blood orange heels.
