“Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping it's dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared.” -Tupac Shakur

Hair: Hask Product Review + My Wash & Go Routine [VIDEO]

The good folks over at *Hask sent me a whole boat load of products that I was really excited to try out. This included both Argan Oil and Keratin Protein shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, shine oil, and twistbands. And they were all in an adorable blue shower caddy. #schwing

Since I went natural, it's been really exciting to try out new hair products. I'm always looking for great moisturizing products that are also good for your hair. And by "good" I mean sulfate and paraben free. See the sulfates are usually what create the lather in your shampoo, and parabens are essentially cosmetic preservatives. Both sulfates and parabens have been under fire recently because they're linked to cancer, fertility issues, and skin irritation, blah blah blah...which is why many companies, like Hask, are offering sulfate and paraben free products.

Here are a few key things you should know:

“You never have to change anything you got up in the middle of the night to write.” -Saul Bellow

I get random bursts of inspiration where I just have to do something...anything. Whether it's painting, writing, styling outfits, taking pictures, etc...I just have to find a way to express myself. So at about 11pm Saturday night, I felt the need to have a photo shoot. Thankfully, I have a nice fiance that doesn't mind taking pictures for me.

New York Day 1: The Engagement.

I went to New York last week and had the absolute time of my life. I hadn't been back to New York since I was a child, and Amanze planned an amazing week for us in the Big Apple! First things first, I got my hair cut off. "the big chop" I had been transitioning for like 6 months and that shit had to go. Plus I was really excited to see my natural curl pattern, since I hadn't been without a relaxer since I was a kid.

That was the first thing. Then, my best friend and boyfriend of 3 1/2 years proposed to me in an art gallery and I said yes. Then we had an amazing night. Definitely one of the best, most unforgettable days of my life. Love you Smook! :)

Styled by LMo: Football Jersey Dress.

Hola ninos!

In the spirit of this here football season, let me show you a little trick I like to call "I go shopping in my boyfriend's fiance's closet sometimes cuz it be like that." :) First things first, I am not a die hard 49ers fan, by any means. I'm from STL, so I rock with all the St. Louis teams, naturally, and anything related to Mizzou as well because we're just the best. I meeaaaan.

Anyway...Aldon Smith is a friend of my boyfriend's fiance's family, so we each got extra official looking jersey's as gifts last year. We wear them from time to time to show support (Lord knows he needs a prayer or two right now.)

With the recent sporty women's trend, I decided to put together a look to show how you can take a men's jersey and rock it somewhat like a dress. Since the weather is cooler now, it would probably work great with some distressed leggings, thigh high socks, or leather pants.

And leave me a comment below if you like the post or think its ridiculous or don't really care and just want to say hi :)

With all that being said.....PEEP!

Style Post: Blue Jean Fiend.

Tons of blue jean with a pop of red because I'm fancy like that. These are thrift store jeans that I DIY'd a while back. Puts the legs on full blast, which might be an issue soon, but I have a few ideas in mind to keep them in rotation while the weather cools down. The top is also thrifted, and so is the metallic bag, which I adore.

Metallics are very popular this season, so with the bag being two toned as well, its a win-win situation. The shoes are from GoJane.com and the lipstick is Covergirl.

Outfit of the Day: DC Love.

I've been having a lot of fun wearing these tennis shoe wedges already this Fall. After the first season I wore them, I had a feeling they may not be in style by the time I would want to wear them again, but apparently, they're still good. We're in the clear.

I used the wedges in this outfit to make my look more casual.  If I put on a pair of pumps, I would be club ready, but I was just chillin around town, so sneaker wedges seemed optimal.

The graffiti love top is from Rue 21, midi skirt is Forever 21, and the sneaker wedges are from Go Jane.

Outfit of the Day: The Stones Tee.

What's up guys?

So first of all, eff Rock the Bells for being such supreme haters and cancelling their festival two, count 'em, two days before the festival was set to begin. Not only did they jipp people out of a great ass time and holographic Eazy-E and ODB, but for whoever flew and rented hotels, that's even more money spent on a regular ass weekend. We'll riot later.

So even with no more Rock the Bells, we still headed to DC to enjoy the nice weather and good vibes. And we had a great time like we usually do in DC. We hit up the District Flea where we had some bomb ass bread pudding from DC Puddin. I highly recommend you try it if you get a chance. Then we headed to Busboys and Poets which is such a cool place with a cool vibe.

Made in America 2013.

Here are some of my photos from the Made in America music festival last month.

We had a great time despite the massive crowds (seemed like way more people than last year) and heat. Next year I'll probably just sit it out and just catch the highlights online.

Some of my favorite acts this year were Empire of the Sun, Black Hippy, Calvin Harris, Beyonce (based on production), Macklemore, and Phoenix.

Style Post: Mondo Poof and Cut-Out Boots.

Hey guys!

It's been a minute since my last OOTD post, but I'm back at it. This is an older Outfit of the Day I did while playing around with some new hairstyles. I'm still transitioning my hair from relaxer's so I've been trying to find styles that work for me right now. I call this the "mondo poof" .....for obvious reasons.

In this OOTD, I'm really loving the shoes! I got these new cut-out booties from GoJane.com. I can never stay away from that site for too long. The top is Forever21 and skirt is from Marshalls.

Style Post: Romber Business.

Hey guys! It's been a minute since I've added a new personal style post. I've been doing a lot this summer, between birthdays (yay, I'm 25), weddings, and family stuff, and I finally had time to get back into the swing of things.

One of the first things you may notice is my hair. I did these kinky twists myself and it took about 5 hours. It was my first time trying anything like this with extensions, but I really liked the outcome and didn't find the process too difficult. Youtube is magical.

Lazy Oaf's Pop Art Inspiration for Fall 2013.

Let me get that hair up off you, bruh.

First of all, let me just say I love Lazy Oaf. Whenever there's a label dedicated to "pop graphic, print focused illustration,"  I'll be on time for it. They pick the funkiest, most eye catching prints that are totally fun and youthful.

Lazy Oaf's Fall 2013 collection for men is all kinds of right. I, as a chick, would wear every single piece. I am so ready for fall weather. The collection is filled with cool patterns, comics, burgers and candy bars. Quick question though? Why is their model so adorable?

Outfit of the Day: Look 3 Festival of the Photograph.

Sup guys.

Me and Amanze headed downtown yesterday for Charlottesville's annual Look 3 Photo Festival. It was really cool last year, so it was definitely something we were looking forward to. Couldn't stay out all day because we had to hit up the UVA resident's graduation dinner *snores* but it was a good day.

Since I'm transitioning my hair to natural, I'm trying to keep off the heat and wear some of the more hair friendly styles I like. This one's a favorite of mine. :)

Outfit of the Day: High-Low Floral Top.

Hola my friends. I'm feeling real adorable in today's "outfit of the day." I've featured this vintage flower top in a previous ootd, but I recently, and quite impulsively, cut the front of the top, making it a high-low style. Not sure if I'm done with it, but for now, let's style an outfit shall we?

I thought it would be cute with a simple red Forever 21 mini and my new red heels from Go Jane. I sometimes like things to be a little "off" with what I'm wearing....a little unusual. For this outfit, I thought the different color reds were interesting. And also how from the back it basically looks like I'm wearing a t-shirt. I'm weird like that.

Style Post: Bantu Knot African Princess.

Please don't ask me why I named this outfit of the day "Bantu Knot African Princess"....but if you must ask, it made me feel pretty tis all. Annnd it probably didn't help that my Nigerian boyfriend told me I looked like his mom when she was back in Africa. Then I just felt authenticated. Anywho.

I have relaxed hair, but I still do "natural hairstyles." I braid my hair a lot, wear it in updo's, and it kind've gives me the best of both worlds. I decided to do some bantu knots the other day, which usually takes forever and 200 days for my hair to dry, so I rocked them out the house.

Hair: High Pigtail Buns.

Sometimes called "raver" pigtail buns, this hairstyle is fun, flirty (did I just say flirty?), and really easy to do. It's one of those hairstyles from the 90's that I would have looked back at and thought, "What the hell were they thinking?", but it's actually a really adorable rising trend right now. Everything's cyclical anyway right?

57th Presidential Inauguration + Michelle Obama's Jason Wu Ball Gown.

Can I start an internet Obama chant going right now? Because that man is greatness. His inaugural speech referencing gay marriage, climate change, and the middle class was everything a great speech should be, because it was bold, passionate, and well delivered. Yep folks, things are bound to change in the next 4 years.

Hayden Panettiere the Rainbow Head.

Hayden Panettiere, my Heroes Queen, is back at it again. Stealing my heart with her fabulousness.

I mean, look at this head. I am so mad that I am not a white girl right now, because if I tried this on my beautiful African American tresses, I'd probably go bald shortly after.

I do really want to put some color in my hair...(bright stuff like this) but I don't even know how that could work.

Question: Do you guys know of any black girl with wild hair color AND healthy hair? Hook me up.

Solange for Glamour France Magazine.

Solange in the building. The 25 year old has a spread in the July 2012 issue of Glamour France, where she is looking fab-u-lous if I may say so myself.

Lots of bold prints and a type of retro chic that I can totally appreciate (seeing as though I live most of my fashion life in the 80s/90s.) I would deal with a fro on my head as well bc I love the look, but I would most likely break my comb and lose my mind "at the same damn time." *cues up Future
