Style Post: Blue Cut-Out Dress.

"It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences." -Audre Lorde
I've found myself in a bit of an Afrocentric vibe lately, and my style has definitely reflected that. In this look, I took this short dress with cutouts (which I found at the thrift store) and added bold accessories to make the look better fit my style. The big elephant necklace and turban headband each add elements to this look that are more Afrocentric in nature.

How to Style: Short Bodycon Dress

Dress: Foerver 21 / Wrap: Unknown / Shoes: Nine West
The kind of beauty I want most is the hard-to-get kind that comes from within - strength, courage, dignity. -Ruby Dee

 Happy Monday!

This outfit is definitely channeling Mother Africa. It's a fun, summertime outfit for the beach, a funky festival, or any type of eclectic crowd. To me, short bodycon dresses can sometimes come off like you're two seconds from going to the club, especially if you're wearing heels. So I decided to throw this wrap I bought while on vacation in Antigua around my waist, paying special attention to position the opening right at the top of my thigh to show a little leg....cuz I'm fancy like that.

Style Post: Green Turban.

Bag: MMS / Maxi Dress: F21 / Shoes: Nine West
“If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing. If she's worth it, you wont give up. If you give up, you're not worthy. ... Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.” ― Bob Marley
Hey beautiful people. I threw this outfit together last weekend to run some errands, and I was digging the overall look. I'm usually a pants or shorts type of girl, but I've been making a real effort this year to wear more dresses and skirts. I enjoy the femininity of it. Turbans and different head wraps are also a must for me this summer. It's an immediate outfit changer, adding lots of color and interest. Not to mention, it's perfect for those days your hair is wildin' out. And be prepared to see a lot more of these shoes. I think flatforms are plain adorable.

Anyway, more pics after the link.
Keep it peaceful :)

“Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping it's dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared.” -Tupac Shakur

Happy New Year.

I want to wish all of you Happy Holidays. Hope your Christmas was wonderful and you go on to have a productive, happy New Year. I'm trying to look on to the New Year as the beginning of a new mindset...an awakening within myself to be a better, more whole person. Especially with all the nonsense that's going on in the world, we need more individuals...more thinkers. More people to change the world. I'm looking at you.

Peace.

Style Post: Groovy Saturdays.

Hey beautiful people.

It's officially the weekend. Fall and gawgeous....especially when you are jamming to Blood Orange's new album "Cupid Deluxe." It is delicious. I promise. This is what I'm wearing today. Lots of random pieces from around the way. My vest, necklace, bangles, & shoes are from thrift stores. Forever 21 black leggings and skirt (old.) A Hanes t-shirt, and the scarf was a gift. Oh, and Ruby Woo Mac lipstick. What a joy it is.

I feel very "African Princess" in this outfit, lol. Turbans are so much fun, and it's cool because they never look quite the same. Aside from the turbans, I've been layering shorts and skirts with leggings. It creates such an interesting look and is Fall appropriate.

Anyway...peep:

Style Post: Gladiator Sandals.

My people! How's it going?

Guess what I got in the mail last week? Those tall gladiator sandals that I posted here from Go Jane. With the gladiator sandal being one of the trendier shoes of the moment, I couldn't resist. Plus I've never had sandals so tall, and it makes me want to go fight lions and be some jungle woman.

Anywho, I think they look great, especially considering the price. Because lets be real, nobody over here at The Pretty Mustache is paying for those Chanel joints. We're paying bills over her, ha. But love the shoes, and this is the look that I styled for them.

Outfit of the Day: Fun with Turbans.

Just a quick #OOTD from one of my all too familiar weekend road trips. I just can't stay still. I loved the look because even though I threw it together, I feel like it really worked for my style. I already know I'll be wearing many more turbans throughout the Summer. They're just so easy and it spices up an outfit immediately.

Oh and I went out to this hookah spot in Roanoke, Va called Double Apple, that was a-dorable. The vibe was on point. Check it out late night if you're in the area.

Peep.

Outfit of the Day: Blue Christmas Sweater and Turban.

I think Theophilus phrased it the best when he said "I think holiday sweaters somehow just make the holiday better..."

You know what brother? I second that emotion. There's no better time for a big bulky sweater, than around the holidays. My sweater of choice is this navy blue and white hand knit vintage joint. I wore it with two early Christmas gifts from Chi Chi (hey girl, heeyy): a blue houndstooth scarf that I wore as a turban and a red Olivia + Joy bag with metal accents.

Then I have on one of the most comfortable pairs of jeans I own with wheat Timbs. I'm not sure if Timbs will ever really go out of style. They always seem to find their way back into relevance don't they?

Welp. Enjoy your holidays.
