Style Post: Blue Cut-Out Dress.

"It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences." -Audre Lorde
I've found myself in a bit of an Afrocentric vibe lately, and my style has definitely reflected that. In this look, I took this short dress with cutouts (which I found at the thrift store) and added bold accessories to make the look better fit my style. The big elephant necklace and turban headband each add elements to this look that are more Afrocentric in nature.

Style Post: Sunflowers & Acid.

Bodysuit, Shorts: Wet Seal /  Shoes: Urban Outfitters / Art: Me :)

"I don't think art is propaganda; it should be something that liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further. It celebrates humanity instead of manipulating it." -Keith Haring
You may be wondering why I'm holding a painting, and if so, it's because I'm shipping this bad boy off to my very first buyer today. Yes, I am officially a paid artist. Still broke, lol, but paid nonetheless. If you want to see more of my art, check out my Etsy shop, ArtistLeslieAnne.

Keep it peaceful,
Leslie Anne

Can We Have a Moment?

I really just wanted to thank everyone for supporting me this past year with The Pretty Mustache. Whether you just look from time to time, have went and liked our Facebook Page, or this is your first time here,  it's all love. I appreciate it.  It's all about having goals and trying to do something special. This is me trying to do just that.

I've always been passionate about fashion. It has been the only thing in my life that I have always loved (I mean besides family, friends, music, cereal, Disney movies, and candy of course, lol).  Since high school, I've been tailoring my clothes to be uniquely me. Making jersey dresses, re-purposing clothes, and starting my own trends. No lie, I've always strived to be on the cutting edge of fashion (as far as my budget would allow me to be...hating ass budget, lol.)

I just wanted to speak directly to each of you and say that whatever you are passionate about, do that shit. Just go for it and try. We are at the age where even if you try and fail, your world won't end. There is still plenty of time to try different things and see what works for you. But you have to try. Why. the fuck. not?

It's 2013. Time to start living.

Brands We Like: Rockwell by Parra.

Parra is a well known Dutch artist known for his easily recognizable illustrations and designs. Born in 1976, he uses bold colors and sexual imagery to create wearable art...that is quite swanky. His characters live that crazy life: popping pills, easing up on vaginas, and losing limbs. Highly enjoyable and I can dig that.

I get a good kick out of the "3rd Worst Person Ever" Trophy keychain and tee. Something one of my best friends would probably appreciate, hehe. To check out the collection in better detail and buy any one of these items and more, click here.

From December 6-9, Miami Beach played host to hundreds of artists from all around the world for Art Basel.

Art Basel is one of the largest and most prestigious art shows in the world, and subsequently, it attracts art lovers everywhere and whole bag full of celebrities and artists. Celebs like Pharrell, Bey & Jay-Z, Cassie, Kanye, and more.

And of course there were lots of fabulous parties and music shows from the likes of Trinidad James, Danny Brown, and Azealia Banks. Catch me there next year gawking at some fabulous new innovative art piece. With music, art, and fashion, it's like the ultimate good time.

Basquiat.

Swizz Beatz for Reebok wearing all types of Basquiat.
Swizz is one of the main supporters of art in the hip hop community. Aside from him repping Jean-Michel Basquiat super hard, he is also an artist himself.(His personal paintings are kinda impressive.)

Anyway, Swizz is working not only on more Basquiat pieces, but also Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. I am really excited to see what he produces because I love all of those artists deeply, esp. Haring. The Keith Haring collection has yet to receive a release date.

Lady Gaga on the September Cover of "Vogue".

Gaga looks spectacular as she graces the September issue of Vogue. She looks like a freaking Goddess in this Marc Jacobs hip hugging gown and a electric blonde wig. It looks totally painted on and cartoonish to me, and its fabulous.

And this is exactly why Lady Gaga is unstoppable. She takes those fashion risks that other people just wouldn't take or be able to pull off. Go girl.

Elle Belgium 2012: Art Power

Photographer Hicham Riad and graffiti artist Kid Acne team up to put a creative spin on a sometimes typical spread in the June issue of Elle Belgium.

I love the art that flows from these images.
And this is so whimsical and awesome.

This inspired me to add some illustrations to my own photos.
I'll put those up some time this week. :)
