Style Post: Striped Del Piero Jersey with DIY "Suspender" Leggings.

I'm wearing a fun little striped Del Piero Soccer Jersey that I found in a thrift store. I got this hat and another pinkish one from Urban Outfitters. I like the baseball style and the teeny tiny bill.

The leggings were simple in the beginning, but I cut and hand-stitched them into the suspender style. It was a fairly easy DIY project too. I'd recommend trying it, and if you have a sewing machine its even easier. If you have any questions, drop me a comment. :)

(MINI) Style Post: Polyester Floral Button Up

I really embraced florals this year. They dominated much of the Spr/Sum 2012 runways, and seeing as though this type of print looks good on practically ever woman, I say let's go. It can be daring, sweet, and certainly bold. I'll still be wearing florals well into the fall with cardigans and other cooler staple pieces..

How to Style: The Patterned T-Shirt.

There are numerous ways one could style a simple t-shirt, but I wanted to show you guys that basically all the same rules apply when you have a t-shirt with patterns.

Here are a few ways to style a patterned t-shirt:

1. Add accessories: Like bold necklaces, funky hats, or even a quirky tie.
2. Play around with the sleeves: Roll 'em up or plain cut them off.
3. Wear something over your shirt: I tried a bold green and black striped cardigan, a white crochet cardigan, a vintage vest (that used to be a long sleeved button up), and an old cut up NYC t-shirt. Put patterns on patterns...."at the same damn time". 
4. Layer your t-shirt over another longer top: I put my t-shirt on top of a white and gold patterned blouse for contrast. It ends up kind've looking like it goes together.
5. Add a belt to go around your waist: (which wouldn't have worked for this outfit, but doesn't mean it won't work for yours)

..and if I were wearing high-waisted shorts, you can guarantee, I would explore:
tucking the shirt in the front and letting it hang in the back,
tucking it in all together, and
tying the shirt in a knot in the front (or back.)

Also, (and I can't stress this enough) explore your local thrift store.
I got 80% of what I had on from the Goodwill or some type of thrift store.
I personally just love the thrill of finding unique clothing for the low, but if you are on a budget, this needs to be your spot.

DIY: High-Low Dress

The other day when I went to the Goodwill, my main objective was to find a white dress that I could wear in Miami. Luckily I found a dress, a long white sleeveless dress, that fit pretty well.
It was a little big, but that usually never matters to me as long as I can put a belt around my waist.

So, the DIY part:
The high-low dress is a new trend that is actually really easy to do yourself.

What you will need:
1. A pair of scissors
2. Pen or pencil - to mark where you want to cut
3. Liquid Stitch - to hem where you have cut
4. An Iron

Optional Materials:
1. Measuring tape - this is only if you'd like to make sure your lines are perfectly even
2. Pins - allow you to keep your hem in place while you iron it
3. A Boyfriend - to help you cut your dress evenly when you're standing up :)

Let's Get Started
What you want to do first, is lay your dress or skirt out flat on a even surface.
You may want to turn your dress inside out if you're afraid of making any permanent marks.

Figure out what type of angle you want your dress to have, and begin tracing it.
Also, you want the dress to be slightly curved along the bottom so it blends well with the length in the back.

I would suggest initially cutting your dress an inch or two below where you actually want it to be.
This way if you make any errors, you will be able to correct it and tidy up any jagged cuts.

After you make your first cut, try on the dress or skirt and see if you like the length.
If not, make changes accordingly.

Now that you have cut the dress to where you would like it to be, use the Liquid Stitch and iron to easily hem the edges. This gives the dress a nice finished look and cleans up the edges. You may want to do a test spot first to be sure it blends with the fabric well.

If you haven't used Liquid Stitch: take the area that needs to be hemmed, put a small amount of Liquid Stitch on the opposite side of the fabric(the side that will not be seen), fold it over, and iron until it is dried and does not pull apart easily.

After you've ironed the hem, you're DONE!
It's that easy.

Outfit of the Day: A$AP Rocky and Schoolboy Q

The weather in DC was unexpectedly beautiful Sunday, so a negro had to whip out the no-sleeves on 'em.
I've had this vintage basketball shirt for a minute, but have literally never wore it. It just stayed in my closet because I didn't know what to wear it with...

Until I found these black "mom jeans" from the Goodwill (which is the perfect recipe for some really good high waist shorts), and there and forth, this outfit was born. It's kind of "I don't give a damn if this actually looks tight, but I'm going to rock it as if it does" type of outfit...which is perfect for an A$AP Rocky & Schoolboy Q show.

Took my top that I wore to the Eastern Market and wrapped it around my waist. Snagged some socks, and wore it with my trusty studded black booties.

Ow.

 

DIY: Shoulderless Top.

Hey guys. I made this shirt a few months ago, and I loved it.
It's a fairly easy DIY project even if you aren't a very skilled sower.

I didn't take pictures or make a video when I was doing my shirt, but I found a good DIY video on YouTube.

She accesorizes her shirt with a studded collar, which I love and will probably be doing soon, but I used vintage buttons on mine. :)

I found this shirt in the men's section at The Goodwill for probably like $3.
If it's one thing I can't stress enough, it's that I love The Goodwill.
Where else can you get so much for so little?
