18 year old rap phenom Joey Bada$$ is the new creative director of ECKO Clothing aka my life just officially became chopped liver. I just have on question....The Fugg? Um when did doing nothing in fashion qualify you to become a creative director of a fashion brand? I'm better off trying to become a reality star, and subsequently being offered my own fashion line after I drop my first studio album.
I am not throwing any shade Joey's way, I like the dude and this collaboration, it's just this type of thing keeps happening. Entertainers keep getting offered things just based off the publicity they could generate for whatever company they're working with. Rihanna with River Island for example...or how about the biggest question mark in life: Alicia Keys becoming Global Creative Director of Blackberry. Wayment? She just say Blackberry? Yea she really just did. No correlation whatsoever, but nevertheless, yet another job given for no reason.
Joey Bada$$ was given this opportunity based on a connect for his manager, and of course his fashionable street style and vision. I will always enjoy a young black person being given an opportunity. Open one door and you never know where that'll take you. I just get a little salty faced when the fashion industry is so hard to break into and it seems like they're giving away jobs like Happy Meal toys if you're already famous. Can a negro like myself get some love? Please? :)
But anyway, congrats to Joey. From the video below, it looks like he's doing his thing over at ECKO, and I am not mad at it. He's a super talented dude anyway, so more props for him.
